Homage to the 1980s Survival Knife

It was Rambo that started it all.
Maybe a little bit in First Blood, but it was definitely the scene in Rambo where the knife with the screw-off compass really shines.
They were black or camouflage and came with a sheath that included a sharpening stone. If you look closely at the pictures, you can see that there were no included instructions on how to use the stone.

Now that is blade that can get it done.

Here's a detail shot on the rear compass. I am sure it is all made of space-age materials.

Of course the real gem on these knives is the hidden space in the back. This details the compass, rings for the folding SAS-style saw, and cavern of survival-related mystery. On the next episode, we'll see what's inside this knife.

Here's one I found out in the woods, removed the handguard (higher speed, lower drag), and used as a boot knife with a sheath - also found in the woods on another occasion - and reenforced with duct tape. Note the ALICE clip.
Eventually, I'll make a page with all of the knives I've found in the woods.

Now that's a useful knife!

"I suggest to one of them that we go hunting. I give him a supply of food and an excellent hunting knife. I give him three hours' start. I am to follow, armed only with a pistol of the smallest caliber and range. If my quarry eludes me for three whole days, he wins the game. If I find him he loses."
