Legalism vs. Moralism

Last weekend I went to a bachelor party for my friend Trey. Part of the time included a few trips down the ole Comal River (in Texas it doesn’t get cold until December) and along with the requisite cocktails and other water-borne shenanigans, there was plenty of time to discuss politics.

I was having a good discussion with Trey about the concept of Legalism vs. Moralism – the idea that something can be legal, but not moral – or even moral, but not legal.

We went back and forth on all manner of examples and settled on the idea that as men our goal should always do what is right – even when what is wrong is protected by the law or some other social construct.

Onward….
