Skills of the Spycraft Artist

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building,
write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone,
solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.
Specialization is for insects."
- Robert A. Heinlein

So what does someone really need to know to lead the action lifestyle?

Be an Escape artist
You can always tell the day is going downhill when someone handcuffs you to the radiator.

Master of Disguise
"You must have me confused with someone else . . . "

Be able to throw knives
Knowing how to throw a knife is not only useful, it is a great party trick as well.

Excellent shot
Doc Holiday was a bad ass not because he was super fast, but because he took the time to aim at his targets. A fast gun hand is useless without accuracy.

Getaway driver
Being in a car is not a time to drift into semi-consciousness - you have to know when to get lateral!

Wilderness Navigation/Survival
Don't be that guy who gets lost in the woods and then has to go on Oprah and talk about what a doofus he was for not realizing that he was 100 yards away from the trailhead the whole time

Flint knapping
Knives be damned, you can use rocks!

Martial Arts

Tae Kwon Do - This Korean martial art (meaning "way (do) of the foot (tae) and fist (kwon)") was established in 1955 from taekyon and influenced by martial arts introduced during the Japanese occupation of Korea (such as judo, jujutsu, karate, kendo, and kungfu, among others).

Kung Jung Mu Sul - Traditional Korean Royal Court Martial Arts

The Ultimate Warrior - An Overview of Mixed Martial Arts by Nick Green

The best martial art to practice is running away from the bad person. Getting your ass stabbed in the middle of some alley over some skanky chick that looked cute after a few beers is just not worth it.

First Aid and Emergency Medicine

The old adage about police goes double for doctors - there is never one around when you need one. The best way to prepare for the worst is to take as many classes as you can on emergency medicine. Get an ECA (Emergency Care Attendant) or EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certification and volunteer whenever possible to keep your skills frosty.

Gunfighting

Rules for a Gunfight

  1. Be courteous to everyone; friendly to no one.
  2. Decide to be aggressive ENOUGH, quickly ENOUGH.
  3. Have a plan.
  4. Have a back-up plan, because the first one probably won't work.
  5. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
  6. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun whose caliber does not start with a "4."
  7. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive.
  8. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral and diagonal movement are preferred.)
  9. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.
  10. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.
  11. Always cheat; always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.
  12. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.
  13. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating or reloading.
  14. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.
  15. And above all ... don't drop your guard.

So find a good shooting school and take a class:
